Born and raised in La Marque, Texas, J.R. Norman graduated from La Marque High School in 1974. A few years later, his journey with AMOCO Federal Credit Union started when he was hired as a process operator at the Amoco Refinery in Texas City and became a member of the Credit Union in 1977. The refinery then transitioned to British Petroleum in the late ‘90s and became Marathon Petroleum in 2013.
In 1991, he started volunteering with AMOCO Federal Credit Union as a member of the Supervisory Committee. After three years, his remarkable leadership and vision have catapulted him into being elected to serve on the Board of Directors in 1994. While on the Board, he has served in every position and continues to serve to this day.
His selflessness and continuous dedication to the betterment of the community have led Mr. Norman to serve other organizations. In addition to his role at the Credit Union, he serves as the President of the Santa Fe ISD Board of Trustees, Santa Fe Fire and Rescue, and is also a Board Member for the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo.
After more than 40 years of service, he retired from Marathon Petroleum in 2017. He and his wife, Christie, have been married for 45 years and currently reside in Santa Fe, TX. Together, they have two children and three grandchildren. He enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time. But, most of all, he likes to spend quality bonding time with his family and friends outdoors.
His time and dedication to the Credit Union have truly helped shape the success of AMOCO Federal Credit Union. In recognition of his leadership and contributions, AMOCO is dedicating the Bay Colony Branch in his name.
